Description
Okuma Altera Sea 5000 Spinning Reel (ATES-5000A) – 9 kg Drag, 4+1 Bearings, Aluminium Spool
The Okuma Altera Sea 5000 is a 5000-size spinning reel for Indian anglers who fish from beaches, piers, rocks and small boats, and also want a reel that works on lakes and rivers. It weighs 302 g, gives 9 kg of drag and has a 5.0:1 gear ratio that brings back 79 cm of line per turn. The spool holds 240 m of 0.30 mm mono, which is enough for longer casts and strong runs. Inside are 4 ball bearings plus a roller bearing, a machine-cut brass pinion gear and oiled felt drag washers, all in a corrosion-resistant graphite body. It's a sensible step up for anglers who want smoother winding and better saltwater build without spending premium-reel money.
Key features
- 9 kg max drag with oiled felt washers: The multi-disc drag lets out line smoothly when a fish pulls hard, which protects your line and knots.
- 4BB + 1RB bearings: Smoother winding than entry-level reels, with Quick-Set infinite anti-reverse for a solid hookset with no handle back-play.
- Corrosion-resistant graphite body: Light and suited to sea use. Rinse it with fresh water after each trip.
- Machine-cut brass pinion gear: Gives a steady, dependable retrieve under load.
- Machine-cut two-tone anodised aluminium spool: Strong, and it holds 240 m of 0.30 mm mono for longer casts.
- RES II rotor balancing: The computer-balanced rotor keeps winding smooth without wobble.
- Rigid screw-in metal handle with TPE knob: The screw-in fit removes play, and the TPE knob gives a firm grip with wet hands.

Ideal use cases
- Beach, pier and rock fishing with bait. It holds 240 m of 0.30 mm line for longer casts, and the 9 kg drag can handle strong fish near the shore.
- Inshore lure casting with spoons, metal jigs and soft plastics. The 5.0:1 gear gives a balanced retrieve that is neither too fast nor too slow for most lures.
- Small-boat and backwater fishing. At 302 g it's light enough for a full day of casting.
- Lakes and reservoirs. It works in freshwater too when you want heavier line.
- Beginners moving up from basic reels. More bearings and a metal spool give a clear step up in smoothness.
